Jesus Reina has been recognized internationally as one of the most remarkable young performers of our time. Praised for his personality, sunny and soulful, which lifts his playing into the realm of the extraordinary.
Jesus major performance debuts took place with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra, with Pinchas Zukerman and NCO, solo appearance in the Perlman-Zukerman Gala and with Eiji Oue and the Orquesta Sinfònica de Barcelona. In addition, he has held recital and performances at Wigmore Hall and Royal Festival Hall in London; Kursaal, big hall of the Palau de la Musica Barcelona and Auditorio de Zaragoza in Spain; and at Merkin Hall, Steinway Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York, among others.
Jesus Reina has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the Queen Sofia award “to the most outstanding violinist", winner four consecutive years of the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition in New York, winner of the Indiana Solo Competition, certificate of Excellence to an “Outstanding String Performance” by the American Strings Teachers Association, recipient of the Tom Marks Memorial Award, award of Excellence in Chamber Music of MSM and winner of the Waldo Mayo Memorial Competition, presented in Kaufman Center.
Born in Spain, Jesus Reina began his studies at age four with his grandfather, learning Spanish folk music. He then studied with Vincenzo Puma and Ara Wartanian in Malaga before moving to London to join The Yehudi Menuhin School, where he took lessons from Natasha Boyarsky and Lord Menuhin himself, as the youngest pupil to be accepted. Later on he went to the Reina Sofia Music School in Madrid studying with Garcia Asensio. Jesus then moved to Bloomington, Indiana, to take lessons from pedagogue Mauricio Fuks at Indiana University. He moved to New York in 2002 to study at the Manhattan School of Music, where he is graduating with a Master in Music, as the youngest student to be accepted in the Pinchas Zukerman Performance Program, receiving lessons from Patinka Kopec and Pinchas Zukerman.
