Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 1979, Evgeny Hochlov studied at the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, graduating with honors from the Choral Conducting program in 2002 as a student of Professor E. Kudryavtseva, and from the Opera/Symphony Conducting program in 2007 (Professor Dmitry Hochlov). He subsequently trained with Roman Kofman in 2008, and with Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi and Leonid Grin in 2009.
Splitting his time between Minsk and his hometown of Saint Petersburg, Hochlov has been a conductor of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus since 2003. In his time there, he has conducted more than 30 concerts, including many of the premiere works of Belarusian composers. In 2008, he staged an acclaimed production of Stravinsky’s The Wedding (Les Noces), on the stage of the Belarusian State Philharmonic.
Hochlov has been a conductor of the Andreyev Imperial Russian Orchestra in Saint Petersburg since 2006, and of the “Saint Petersburg Chamber Opera” since 2008, with whom he maintains a repertoire of more than ten operas. Hochlov has additionally presided over productions of Eugene Onegin and The Marriage of Figaro as a Guest Conductor at the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Theater of Opera and Ballet. He also had the honor of making his conductorial debut on the storied stage of the Grand Hall of the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic in 2006.
As a participant in the highly selective master class of Roman Kofman, Hochlov had the pleasure of conducting the renowned Beethoven Orchestra of Bonn in 2008. In addition to his work in Minsk and Saint Petersburg, 2009 saw Hochlov conduct both the National Youth Symphony Orchestra and Youth Chamber Orchestra of Estonia. He continues to regularly lend his talents to a wide array of competitions and festivals in Saint Petersburg ("Contemporary Past Music Festival," "From the Avant-garde to Our Time," "The Andreyev Orchestra and its Friends") and in Minsk ("The Musical Springtime of Belarus"), and frequently collaborates with contemporary composers in Russia and Belarus, where he recently completed a series of recordings with the Belarussian State Television and Radio Company.
